Zakynthos, also known by its Italian name Zante, is the southernmost of the seven Ioanian islands that lie off the western coast of mainland Greece. Zakynthos (Zante) divides into three geographical areas: the Vassilikos Peninsula in the southeast, a central plain, and the wild and mountainous north and west. Zakynthos (Zante) is one of the greenest of all the Greek islands, it has good, fertile soil and receives a generous amount of rain in the winter and early spring.
Although Zakynthos (Zante) is now thoroughly Greek, evidence of the island’s Venetian heritage is inescapable, from its Italianate church towers, to the descendants of aristocratic Venetian families, still major landowners. The once-elegant harbor town of Zakynthos (Zante) had its public buildings and squares rebuilt approximately as they were before the 1953 earthquake, but in reinforced concrete.
You can get to Zakynthos (Zante) either by air from Athens, the capital of Greece, in 45 minutes or directly from abroad by continuous charter flights. You can also travel by ferry boat from Kyllini, which is 60 km from Patras. Ferries from Kyllini pull in at the long jetty at the southern end of the harbor, where the port authority can also be found.
7 km away from Zakynthos town is situated Tragaki village. Tragaki is a small and picturesque village and it is suitable for those seeking for relaxing and peaceful holidays. Maistrali apartments are located in Tragaki village, which is suitable either for families or for couples.
