Zakynthos villages

Find below a list with the most important Zakynthos villages. Find more information regarding each Zakynthos villages by clicking the proper link at the end of each paragraph.

Zakynthos town

Even though Zakynthos town was shaken to ruins by the 1953 earthquake, it was rebuilt in keeping with its Venetian past. The capital has many churches, museums, monuments and squares in remembrance of the island’s long and turbulent history.

Tsilivi

This area is a very popular family resort, with gently sloping child-friendly beaches protected from strong winds by Cape Gaidaros. In hot weather northerly breezes make it a cooler place to be.

Tragaki

This pretty hilltop village is located only 7km from Zakynthos town and 9km from the airport. Tragaki has developed over the last few years and has become a favourite destination for many holidaymakers.

Kypseli

Kypseli lies on the north east coast of Zakynthos Island, not far from the neighboring Tragaki resort. A short walk away from the hotels takes you to the beach, a mixture of sand and pebbles, and a clear blue sea.

Argasi

Argassi was one of the first resorts to accept English tourists who arrived on Zakynthos Island in the early 1980’s.

Agios Nikolaos

Agios Nikolaos is a small village situated on the north_east coast of Zakynthos Island. A popular sightseeing trip from the port of Agios Nikolaos is to the Blue Caves, situated east of Cape Skinari.

Alikanas

A family orientated package tour resort, especially popular with the British, Alikanas has kept a traditional feel and slower pace of life than some of the larger resorts on the island. The loveliest part of this resort is the lively little fishing port at Cape Agia Kiriaki, which also has a chapel to visit.

Alykes

A small village to the north-east of the island, sharing the stretch of golden sandy beach with neighboring Alikanas, Alykes offers a more relaxed and quieter side than some of the livelier resorts on Zakynthos.

Kalamaki

Kalamaki is located a short distance along the coast from the island’s largest resort of Laganas. A smaller resort and not quite as lively as its neighbor, Kalamaki attracts a wide range of tourists.

Laganas

The island’s largest resort attracts primarily the younger set due to its vast array of nightclubs and bars. Partying in Laganas begins early and continues into the early hours of the morning, with karaoke, top club DJ's and parties.

Limni Keriou

On the western side of the southern cape is the pretty village of Keri. Many of the traditional houses here have been bought by German and British visitors, which gives the village quite a different and more reserved character from other places on the island. Keri is very popular for its beautiful sunset and is visited by many people who wish to see this spectacular and very romantic view.

Vasilikos

On the eastern side of Laganas Bay is one of the most beautiful parts of the island; the Vasilikos peninsula. Heading south from Zakynthos town the first place you come to is Argasi, the headquarters of the national park are situated here beside the church.

Volimes

The villages of Volimes are located about 35 km to the north-west of the Zakynthos town. The area is relatively untouched by tourism with traditional architecture and a peaceful atmosphere.
